MEDEA
MOTHERS MONSTERS WHORES

BERLINER ARBEITER THEATER, BERLIN
MARCH 2026

As a German-English musical theatre project, this work places female violence at its center:
How do we perceive female violence?
What do we fear in women? To which stereotypes do we reduce them—and thus their (political) agency?
Are violent women still considered women?

In an interdisciplinary format combining opera, spoken text, and performance, we meander through excerpts from Charpentier’s Baroque opera Médée, Euripides’ drama Medea, and the Laura Sjongen's feminist theory about the “Mothers, Monsters, Whores.”
We search for violence and it's attributions in both text and music, which are bound together, destroyed, and reborn through new compositions by Kristine Fogh Vindelev.
